Welcome

Welcome to the companion website for The Stage Manager’s Toolkit.  This book and companion website are designed to provide the stage manager with a road map to discovering and sharing information about your production that is tactful, timely, and specific, and considers both to whom you are communicating and in what format.  It is organized on the chronology of a typical theatrical production: pre-production work, rehearsals, the tech period, performances, and post-production duties. In each of its major sections, the book outlines the objectives for the stage manager and the communication techniques that can ensure success. We will take a look at what is to be done and how to approach the task—whether that is how to record character entrances and exits and prepare for your first meeting with the director, or how to organize the backstage tasks of your crew and prepare for understudy rehearsals.

Here online we can dig deeper into the sample communication tools presented in the text—sharing full versions of the samples excerpted in the text as well as some additional examples.  Each form presented in the text exists here as a template for you to download and use on your own productions.  As appropriate, those templates are provided in both Word and Excel, for both Mac and PC. The site also contains video excerpts of the stage manager at work and a wide variety of resources and web links.
