About the Author

Rob Pope is a Professor of English at Oxford Brookes University and a UK National Teaching Fellow. He has taught at universities in Wales, Russia and New Zealand, and run curriculum and staff development programmes in America, Australia, Japan and Western and Central Europe. He began as a medievalist (including a book on Chaucer) and has since worked extensively on the interfaces of English language and literature. He has pioneered a number of techniques combining creative and critical activity, and remains fascinated by all forms of rewriting: parody, adaptation, imitation and translation. His publications include Textual Intervention: Creative and Critical Strategies for Literary Studies (Routledge 1995); Creativity: Theory, History, Practice (Routledge 2005) and Creativity in Language and Literature: the State of the Art (co-edited with Joan Swann and Ronald Carter, Palgrave Macmillan, 2011). Studying English Literature and Language is the third edition of his The English Studies Book (Routledge 1998, 2002).

Andrea Macrae is a Senior Lecturer in Stylistics at Oxford Brookes University. Much of her work is dedicated to cognitive poetics, though she teaches stylistics more broadly, along with narratology and twentieth century fiction.  She has published several articles in international journals, and is currently writing her first book on the language of perspective in literature. Andrea is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a member of the Poetics and Linguistics Association committee. She has a P.G.C.H.E. and C.E.L.T.A., and has been teaching undergraduate and postgraduate English studies since 2006. Andrea has designed a range of modules in language and literary studies, including a related work placement module. Andrea is the e-learning officer at Oxford Brookes University, and is committed to maximising the educational function of Virtual Learning Environments. She is very much enjoying collaborating with Prof. Rob Pope in producing and maintaining this website!
