Rhythm Flashcards
Oversized rhythm flashcards are an ideal way to present rhythm words to a large class. Flashcards can be used as part of a 4-step process of sound-to-symbol learning, as described in Chapter 2, which also helps prepare students for music reading. Included on this page are Microsoft Word files with over 220 rhythms at various levels pre-formatted for 8.5 inch X 11 inch paper. After printing them out, hand-notate the rhythm on the back of the sheet in small print—large enough for you to see but small enough so students cannot read it from their seats. You can create additional patterns by using a black marker to write in ties. An additional Microsoft Word file is included with more ideas for using these cards.
