Anthony Sekalliou

I qualified in medicine at University College London in 1987. My surgical training was undertaken in London and Winchester and I became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS England) in 1992. I went on to specialise in orthopaedic surgery gaining the FRCS (Orth) in 1996 and the Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (CCST) in 1999. My sub-specialty training in foot and ankle surgery was undertaken in Vancouver, Canada and the Mayo Clinic Scottsdale, Arizona. On completion of that training I was awarded the Certificate of Completion of Advanced Foot and Ankle Training, by the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society.

I have been President of BOFAS (British Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society) 2014-15 and have previously served BOFAS as Honorary Secretary and on its Education Committee. I also sit on the Education Committee of EFAS (European Foot and Ankle Society) and regularly review articles submitted for publication in the journal: ‘Foot and Ankle International’.

I teach nationally and internationally and have published widely on many aspects of foot and ankle surgery. Ankle fractures and their management have been of particular interest to me recently.

I have also established, and am joint lead clinical supervisor of, the ‘Surrey Foot and Ankle Fellowship’ program. This is a 12-month clinical and research training position for trainees who have finished their orthopaedic training and wish to specialise in F&A surgery.

I have worked as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Frimley Park Hospital, Surrey, UK, since 1999, with a special interest in surgery of the foot and ankle.

Basil Budair

Mr Basil Budair qualified in 2007 and completed his core and higher surgical training in Trauma & Orthopaedics in the West Midlands. He achieved a Master’s degree at the University of Edinburgh in 2014 and was awarded Distinction for his research work on surgical education. He obtained the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons FRCS (Tr & Orth) in 2019 and was appointed as a consultant foot & ankle surgeon at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Trust in February 2021. He is an Honorary Lecturer at Aston University.

He undertook an advanced fellowship in adult and paediatric Foot & Ankle surgery at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital in Birmingham, and a foot & ankle surgery and diabetic foot reconstruction fellowship at King's College Hospital in London. During his training, he also completed a visiting fellowship at a centre of excellence in Vancouver, Canada. These fellowships helped him gain a wide experience in managing routine and complex foot & ankle problems.

Mr Budair is passionate about research and innovation especially in foot & ankle deformity analysis and reconstruction planning, biomechanics and surgical techniques. He served as the Birmingham Orthopaedic Network Lead for Research and Audit in 2019/2020 and has published papers in peer-reviewed journals and presented his research nationally and internationally. He is actively involved in teaching of undergraduate students and postgraduate trainees, and a clinical supervisor of biomedical engineering PhD and Masters students. He is a regular faculty of national and international FRCS (Tr & Orth) courses.

Dev Mahadevan

Mr Dev Mahadevan is a fellowship trained Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon who specialises in Foot and Ankle surgery and musculoskeletal injuries. Mr Mahadevan graduated from the University of Nottingham in 2002. His early medical and surgical training was in the South West. He subsequently undertook specialist orthopaedic training in the East Midlands Deanery based in the University Hospitals of Leicester and Northampton. His advanced foot and ankle surgical fellowship was at the internationally renowned Avon Orthopaedic Centre in Bristol. This is where he developed his major clinical interest in arthroscopic and endoscopic treatment of ankle and foot conditions. He moved to Reading in 2015 to take on the role of Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon.

Mr Mahadevan has 24 peer-reviewed research publications to-date and a portfolio of national and international research presentations. His particular research interest is on bunion correction, arthritis, Morton's neuroma and Achilles tendon disorders. He is an invited faculty member of several orthopaedic courses including the British Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society Principles Course and the Chesterfiled, Sheffield and Derby FRCS (Tr&Orth) Clinical Examination Course.

Dishan Singh

Dishan Singh studied medicine at Manchester Medical School, graduating in 1983. He obtained his Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1988 and was in 1995 appointed as a consultant at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital

He was instrumental in setting up a multidisciplinary foot and ankle team and has trained nearly 50 foot and ankle surgeons in the United Kingdom and abroad. He convened the Stanmore Foot and Ankle Course for 18 years and the Round Table in Foot and Ankle Surgery for 9 years.

Dishan is a past–president of the British Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society and is a member of the scientific committee of the European Foot and Ankle Society (chair between 2016 and 2019). He has edited the foot and ankle section of the European textbook of Orthopaedics and Trauma. He has over a hundred peer-reviewed publications.

His research interests include neurological deformities, hindfoot deformity, gastrocnemius tightness and inferior heel pain.

Hiro Tanakah

Hiro Tanaka is a Consultant foot and ankle surgeon from Newport in South Wales. He is passionate about improving the quality of surgical training and clinical leadership within the NHS. He has innovated training through his work with the Education Committee of BOFAS and as Chairman of the Education Committee of the BOA, designing courses such as the Principles of Foot and Ankle Surgery, Bootcamp, Future Leaders Programme and promoting diversity within the profession. He is the editor of the Journal of Trauma and Orthopaedics, a BOA council member and the Honorary Treasurer for BOFAS. He is an examiner for the FRCS (Tr & Orth).

Jasdeep Singh Giddie

Mr. Giddie has recently been appointed to the Frimley Health Foundation Trust, as a Foot and Ankle consultant. He qualified from the university of Newcastle Upon Tyne in 2007, completed his basic and higher surgical training within the East of England training rotation in 2018.

He completed 2 fellowships; the Windsor foot and ankle fellowship and a diabetic and trauma fellowship at Kings College Hospital London. Prior his appointment to this unit he briefly worked as locum consultant at Kings College Hospital.

Mr Giddie’s specialist interests include surgical management and reconstruction of the diabetic foot, foot and ankle trauma, elective foot and ankle surgery and sports injuries.

John Sullivan

John Sullivan is a Consultant Prosthetist based at the Prosthetic Rehabilitation Unit, Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore. He has extensive experience in the field of prosthetic rehabilitation and provision, initially in manufacturing and, for the past 30 years, as a prosthetist with experience in both upper and lower extremity prosthetic provision.

Prior to working at Stanmore John was based at Queen Mary’s Hospital, Roehampton, where he contributed over a 20-year period to the first UK osseointegration trial for transfemoral amputees.

John has always been active in student development and training. He is the current Chair of the International Society of Prosthetics and Orthtotics UK Member Society. He teaches across a range of courses including the Annual Course for Amputee and Prosthetic Rehabilitation at RNOH Stanmore.

Karan Molhatra

Karan Malhotra is a consultant orthopaedic foot & ankle surgeon at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital. He undertook his basic medical training in the University of Manchester, graduating with honours. His registrar training was in Yorkshire and the Stanmore rotation in London. He has undertaken Foot and Ankle Fellowships in Melbourne, Australia and the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, UK. He was awarded a grant by the British Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society (BOFAS) for a visiting fellowship to Singapore and his international fellowship to Australia. Mr Malhotra is a keen educator and trainer. He runs simulation training for registrars and is involved in running Foot and Ankle lectures nationally. Mr Malhotra has been actively involved with research throughout his career. He is widely published, and his work has won national and international awards. He has also written book chapters and consensus publications. Mr Malhotra has particular interests in developing technology in healthcare and improving patient outcomes and holds seats on two national committees with BOFAS. He is active in a number of national projects aimed at improving patient care.

Kartik Hariharan

Kartik Hariharan is the Clinical Lead for a large Foot And Ankle Centre of Excellence working for the Aneurin Bevan University Health Board in Newport South Wales United Kingdom.

He is internationally known in the world of foot and ankle surgery. He was the President of the British Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society in 2011-2012 after serving as Chairman of Education for the society. He is the Trustee of that organisation now.

He has pioneered many procedures in the field of foot and ankle surgery and has a large portfolio of published research.
His specialist field of expertise is in deformity correction in the foot and ankle, minimally invasive surgery, complex reconstruction In The diabetic Charcot foot, rheumatoid arthritis and complex foot and ankle trauma. He also has vast experience of the treatment of sports related and dancers’ conditions in the foot and ankle 

He is the Chairman of the Clinical Commissioning group for foot and ankle surgery for the Royal College of Surgeons and the Dept of Health.
He also has extensive experience in teaching and is an honorary teacher for the University of Wales college of medicine. He has been on the postgraduate training programme board for Wales for several years.

He has been a specialist Advisor for the National Institute of Clinical Excellence. 

He is well known for his lectures both nationally and internationally and featured in a BBC production ‘Dissected: The Incredible Human Foot’.

In 2015 he was awarded the prestigious Naughton Dunn Lecture by the British Orthopaedic Association.
He is also the proud recipient of the Ram Janam Sulakshana Pandey Oration In 2016. 
He was awarded the prestigious Sir Rowland Hughes Memorial Oration by the Welsh Orthopaedic Society in 2017. 

He is the Clinical Lead for Patient Reported Outcomes for the Aneurin Bevan University Health Board South Wales.

He was the Foot and Ankle Surgeon for the Newport Gwent Dragons, Newport County Football Club and the Newport Cricket club.

Lyndon Mason

Prof Mason qualified from the University of Wales College of Medicine, completing his orthopaedic training in Wales before moving to Liverpool as a consultant specialising in Major trauma and foot and ankle surgery. He was the first trainee to win the Chan Chen memorial prize twice and was the first fellow to be awarded the British Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society Gold fellowship award. He undertook fellowships in Dreseden with Prof Hans Zwipp and Salt Lake City with Prof Saltzmann before his home fellowship in Liverpool. His research in the last few years has become nationally and internationally recognised, winning 14 national and international prizes in 8 years. He has been awarded the Hunterian Professorship form the Royal college of surgeons in 2019 for his work on ankle fractures, Robert Jones gold medal and Association prize in 2017 for his work on the evolution of the foot and Jaques Duparc prize from EFORT for his joint work on discovery of a new foot ligament. Prof Mason is involved in British Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society, as an outcomes committee member, leading a project on bringing trauma outcomes to the foot and ankle National registry.

Prof Mason is also very involved in teaching, both locally and nationally, begin involved in the School of medicine and as an invited faculty courses for the British Orthopaedic Association, Royal College of Surgeons and British Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society.

Manuel Monteagudo MD

Mr Monteagudo specializes in the care of foot and ankle disorders and sports injuries. After graduating Magana cum Laude from Alcalá University in Madrid (Spain), he completed his orthopaedic residency at Hospital Universitario La Princesa in Madrid. His specialist foot and ankle training included prestigious fellowships in the USA and Spain.

With special expertise in reconstructive surgery of the foot and ankle he has special interests in joint-preserving procedures in patients with ankle osteoarthritis, sports injuries and patients with sequelae of trauma and previous failed surgeries.

Mr Monteagudo is Director of Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Unit at Hospital Universitario Quironsalud Madrid (Spain) and Associate Professor and Clinical Director at the Faculty of Medicine UEM Madrid (Spain). He is Program Director of Foot and Ankle Fellowships at Hospital Universitario Quironsalud Madrid and currently serves on the Council of the Spanish Society of Medicine and Surgery of the Foot and Ankle (SEMCPT) as President Elect and on the Scientific Committee of the European Foot and Ankle Society (EFAS) as Chairman. In addition to patient care and teaching duties, he maintains a busy schedule of clinical research and publications, working as a reviewer for national and international journals and being frequently invited as speaker in the field of Foot and Ankle Surgery, nationally and internationally.

Nick Eastley

Nick Eastley completed his medical training at the University of Sheffield, United Kingdom. As an undergraduate he also completed an MBChB investigating the genomic drivers of the process of arteriogenesis using zebrafish as an animal model.

After completing foundation training he next moved to the East Midlands in the United Kingdom where he is currently in his final year of Trauma and Orthopaedic higher surgical training.

In 2015-2018 he successfully completed a PhD investigating potential novel biomarkers of soft tissue sarcomas at the University of Leicester, where he remains an honorary fellow. To support this work he was successfully awarded PhD fellowships from the Medical Research Council, the Rosetrees Trust and the Royal College of Surgeons (Eng).

Throughout his training Nick has published and written regularly on multiple aspect of orthopaedics, and is soon scheduled to fellowship in Toronto specialising in the field of musculoskeletal oncology.

Nick Gallogly

Nick Gallogly is a consultant orthotist specialising in biomechanics, gait analysis and the orthotic management of musculoskeletal and neuromuscular lower limb conditions for adults and paediatrics

Nick first qualified in 2004 with a degree in Medical Mechanical Engineering from Dublin followed by an honour’s degree in Prosthetics and Orthotics from the University of Salford. In early 2014 he attained a Master’s Degree in Clinical Biomechanics from Staffordshire University.

Nick currently works as the head of service and clinical lead at the Royal Berkshire Foundation Trust Hospital and is the chair for the national orthotic managers group (NOMaG) supporting in-house orthotic services in England.

Nick works with several professional sports team. These include the GB rowing and para-rowing teams, premiership rugby, Pro-14 rugby, premier league, and championship football teams. He lives in Reading, Berkshire with his wife Shani and two girls, Orla and Erin.

Nikhil Nanavati

Mr Nikhil Nanavati is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in foot and ankle surgery. He was a student at The Manchester Grammar School, studied medicine at Brighton/Sussex medical school and completed his orthopaedic training on the South Yorkshire rotation. He has worked alongside 2 past presidents of the British Foot and Ankle Society (BOFAS) which included a 16 month fellowship with Miss Patricia Allen. Mr Nanavati has undertaken a trauma fellowship in Malawi and completed a post graduate masters in Orthopaedic Engineering (Cardiff) which he passed with Merit and ranked 11th in the country and 4th in Yorkshire in his orthopaedic and basic surgical trainings exams respectively. He has won awards for innovation in orthopaedic surgery, published in multiple journals and is an Advanced Trauma Life Support instructor.

Pilar M de Albornoz

Mrs. M. de Albornoz specializes in the management of foot and ankle disorders and sports injuries. After graduating from Complutense University in Madrid (CUM) (Spain), she obtained the PhD degree (Surgery Doctoral Habilitation by the CUM) with Summa Cum Laude. She completed her orthopaedic resident training at FREMAP Hospital in Madrid and co-founded the Foot and Ankle Unit in Torrejón Hospital (Madrid). She has a full trajectory in the speciality of the Foot and Ankle performing prestigious fellowships in London and Spain.

She offers specialized care in complex conditions requiring foot and ankle reconstruction, arthroscopic procedures, trauma injuries, sports and tendon disorders, osteoarthritis, foot-ankle deformities, and surgical rescue of previous failed surgeries.

Mrs. M. de Albornoz coordinates the clinical attendance as a member of the Foot and Ankle Unit at Hospital Universitario Quironsalud Madrid (Spain) with the teaching program for Medical Students through the association with Universidad Europea de Madrid. Raj Bhatt

I have been working as Consultant MSK Radiologist at University Hospitals of Leicester since 2001.

I practice all aspects of MSK radiology including spinal imaging . I also perform Ultrasound , Fluoroscopy and CT guided MSK and spinal interventions.

My special interest is Sports Medicine imaging.

I have presented and published in various European , International meetings and published in peer reviewed journals.

Rajeev Vohra

Dr. Rajeev Vohra MBBS, MS (Ortho), DNB (Ortho), MNAMS, is a senior consultant in Department of Orthopaedics, Amandeep Hospital. Amritsar. He runs post graduate course for degree of DNB in Orthopaedics, and is DNB coordinator of Amandeep Hospital. He was awarded “Distinguished Teacher Award “, by National Board of Examinations, India in 2019, for his active involvement in post graduate education and research. He was awarded International Cancer Technology transfer Award (ICRETT) by Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) to work in bone tumour service of Royal Orthopaedic Hospital Birmingham, UK. He did AO Fellowship in orthopaedic trauma from University of Essen, Germany. His special interest is foot and ankle surgery. He was awarded IFAS-UAB fellowship by Indian Foot and Ankle Society to visit Foot and Ankle surgery unit at UAB Alabama Medical Center, USA. He has done visiting fellowships in foot and ankle surgery at Duke University, North Carolina, and UTMB Texas in USA, and Toronto Western Hospital and Western University in Canada. He has been past President of Indian Foot and Ankle Society. He is also executive committee member of APOA Foot and Ankle Council. He is a reviewer to Journal of Clinical Orthopaedics and Trauma, and The Bone and Joint Journal. He has many publications to his credit in both national and international journals. He has also contributed chapters in books. He has been faculty to many foot and ankle courses, workshops conducted in India.

Rajesh Kakwani

Rajesh Kakwani is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Northumbria Healthcare NHS Trust. He specialises in Foot and ankle disorders including sports injuries. He studied medicine and then did his post-graduation (Masters Degree) in Orthopaedics from the Mumbai University, India. He completed his MCh Orthopaedics degree from the University of Liverpool in 2006. He did his Higher Surgical Training from the Northern Deanery, gaining the FRCS (Orth) accreditation in 2012.

He was fellowship trained in foot and ankle surgery under Mr Ian Winson, at Avon Orthopaedic Centre, Bristol, United Kingdom, and under Mr Chris Blundell, Northern General Hospital, Sheffield. He was awarded the BOFAS (British Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society) Travelling fellowship to the Sigvard Hansen Foot and Ankle Unit in Seattle, USA – May 2014. He has successfully completed the AO Trauma fellowship under Prof. Krettek at Hannover, Germany in June 2011.

He is and has been a Clinical & Educational Supervisor, as well as the Surgical Training committee representative for the Orthopaedic Specialty Trainees and teaches in a variety of national and international courses.

He organised the ‘Foot & Ankle teaching term for the Health Education North East orthopaedic trainees (2017 & 2020) with fantastic reviews. The comments for the term have been ‘outstanding term and, to some extent, a new benchmark’.

He was awarded the ‘Trainer of the Year’ trophy in 2016-17 & again in 2019-20.

He is the Chair for the regional Orthopaedic Teaching Network (ONTEA).

He has served in the Education Committee of the British Foot & Ankle Society (BOFAS) and presently is a member of the BOFAS Scientific Committee.

Mr Kakwani is a member of the National Orthopaedic Selection Design group for recruitment of Orthopaedic trainees on to the higher surgical training program.

He has now been selected to be an examiner for the FRCS (Tr & Orth) examinations.

He has authored numerous peer reviewed publications and has written may book chapters in reputed orthopaedic books.

Rajiv Hanspal

Professor Rajiv Hanspal is a retired Consultant in Rehabilitation Medicine at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital at Stanmore, Middlesex. Trained initially in Orthopaedic Surgery and subsequently in Rehabilitation Medicine, he is a fellow of both the Royal College of Surgeons and the Royal College of Physicians and was appointed as Consultant in Rehabilitation Medicine in 1990, specialising in Rehabilitation of Amputees, people with Congenital Limb Deficiency and Prosthetics. He also established a neurological rehabilitation unit and the Regional Environmental Service at the Hillingdon Hospital.

In addition to his clinical commitments in the NHS, he has been the President of the British Society for Rehabilitation and served on several committees for the Department of Health and the NHS. He founded the Amputee Medical Rehabilitation Society and the Special Interest Group for Electronic Assistive Equipment. Currently, he chaired the Clinical Reference Group to advice the NHS England on Specialist Commissioning (to include Prosthetics, Orthotics, Assistive Technology and specialist Wheelchairs).

He has been extensively involved in Training & Education. He developed the Annual Course for Amputee & Prosthetic Rehabilitation now in its 20th year. He was involved in Clinical Research and has over 30 publications. He was instrumental in development of prosthetic rehabilitation standards in UK. In 2014, he was awarded the George Murdoch Medal for his research on prosthetic rehabilitation

Professor Hanspal is a past President of the International Society of Prosthetics and Orthotics with national member societies in over 70 countries and members in over 100 nations.

In 2012, he was awarded the degree of Doctor of Science (ad hominum) for Contribution to Medicine.

Raju Ahluwalia

Kings College Hospital, London, UK

Mr. Ahluwalia is a consultant orthopaedic trauma & foot and ankle surgeon working at King’s College Hospital Major Trauma Centre and King’s Diabetic Foot Clinic, London and a specialist in disorders of the foot & ankle, and lower limb reconstruction. He has trained with some of the doyens of foot and ankle surgery including several past BOFAS presidents specialising in complex hind foot and neurological problems, Arthroscopic, Ankle Arthroplasty and MIS hind foot surgery, and Specialist Limb Reconstruction fellowship. He is a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (England), and a Member of the Faculty of Sports and Exercise Medicine (Edinburgh).

He is a member of the King’s Diabetic Foot Unit and Multi-Disciplinary Foot Team undertaking all aspects of diabetic foot surgery. Including hind and mid-deformity foot surgery and specific protocol to delivering ulcer control and salvage for the foot at risk. He has served as an elected member of the Diabetic Foot Study Group (DFSG) executive committee defining the direction for the next decade and sits on the Charcot Group Committee. He is faculty and convener of the King’s Charcot meeting, a founder member of the International Diabetic Foot Care Group (IDFCG) working with D-Foot International in the design, and implementation of the “fast track” pathway for DFU/DFO management.

Currently he leads for the King’s Foot and Ankle Department Complex Foot MDT Clinic and tertiary referral service for South-east London. He is a co-author/advisor of the London Major Trauma Service Elderly Trauma Guidelines, and Principal Investigator for both portfolio and NIHR trials e.g., AIR and clinical lead of a British Orthopaedics Trainee Association (BOTA) and Orthopaedic Trauma Society (OTS) national Complex Ankle Study (HARnT). He has published over 40 peer reviewed articles, 70 national and international presentations, several book chapters and is the current Associate Editor for the Annals of Clinical Medicine and routinely reviews for Injury, and other established journals.

Rick Brown

Rick Brown graduated from the University of Cambridge and King’s College Hospital, London, before completing orthopaedic training on the Middlesex & Stanmore Rotation, London and then Fellowships in Sydney and at Harvard, USA. After appointment as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon in 2004, he established the new Foot and Ankle Service in Cheltenham and ran a Regional Paediatric Foot Clinic at Bristol Children’s Hospital.

In 2016 he was appointed as a Consultant in the Foot & Ankle Team at The Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre, Oxford, where his practice covers all areas of Foot & Ankle surgery including sports injuries, neurological conditions, complex forefoot pathology, arthritis and young adult problems. He is an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer in Orthopaedic Surgery of the University of Oxford.

Education in Foot & Ankle surgery is his special interest. Since 2012 he has served on the BOFAS Education committee, of which he is now the Chairman. He designed several new Courses in the UK as well as overseas and is an experienced Course Director and Chairman of Instructional courses either at conferences or as a webinar. He has served on the Court of Examiners of the FRCS (Tr & Orth) for eight years.

Robert Clayton

Robert Clayton moved to Edinburgh in 1994 and graduated in 2000. He undertook Basic and Higher Surgical training in the South East Scotland region. He undertook fellowship training in Foot & Ankle surgery in Glasgow in 2009 before taking up post as a Consultant Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Surgeon in Fife in 2010. He has a highly specialised elective and trauma foot and ankle practice. He has an active role in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education and orthopaedic research. He is a prominent member of the British Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society, having served on its Scientific Committee, and he is now a council member and Director of the society.

Sangoh Lee

Dr Sangoh Lee MBBS BSc MRCP FRCR completed his undergraduate medical training at Imperial College London. He subsequently completed general and specialist musculoskeletal radiology training at University Hospitals of Leicester and Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital. He is currently a consultant musculoskeletal and trauma radiologist at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, working at St Mary’s, Charing Cross and Hammersmith Hospitals. His regular practice includes musculoskeletal and spine imaging, image guided intervention, major trauma, and other complex orthopaedic and rheumatological disorders. He is very keen on medical education and currently lectures and examines at several national and international courses.

Shahbaz Malik

I am a Consultant at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust. I obtained CCT in 2018 having trained on the Birmingham Orthopaedic Training Programme. Following a fellowship at The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital Birmingham arthroscopy unit, I completed a further one year fellowship at the Pan Am clinic, Canada doing Sports Surgery. I consolidated my experience at Perth Sports Surgery Fellowship in Australia which was followed by a Trauma Fellowship.

During my training, I completed a Masters in Orthopaedic Engineering from Cardiff University and developed an interest in teaching Orthopaedic Biomechanics. I have helped establish a biannual one-day course, Basic Biomechanics in Orthopaedics (BBiOrth), which has been running successfully for the last decade. I have written many book chapters and published several papers as well as a book on biomechanics in Orthopaedics.

Shelain Patel

Shelain Patel is a consultant orthopaedic foot & ankle surgeon at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital. He graduated from University College London Medical School and completed his orthopaedic training on the UCLH & Middlesex Hospital training programme. He undertook fellowships in Windsor and Stanmore, and was awarded the BOSTAA fellowship to visit centres of excellence in USA and Holland. He is widely published with numerous peer reviewed publications, book chapters and consensus publications. He remains committed to teaching and training with faculty positions on numerous courses, and is regularly invited to teach FRCS(Orth) topics on registrar teaching programmes.

Tricia Allen

Patricia Allen graduated from University of Birmingham before training in orthopaedic surgery in Birmingham and Bristol. She undertook a fellowship in foot and ankle and paediatric orthopaedic surgery in Dublin in 1998 and was appointed as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon in Bristol in 2000. She moved to Leicester as a Consultant in 2003 and has developed the Foot and Ankle service here. Her practice is now purely adult elective orthopaedic surgery covering all aspects of the specialty but with specific interests in major deformity correction, neurological conditions and diabetic foot disease. She was President of the British Orthopaedic Trainees Association whilst a trainee. She has served two terms on the Scientific Committee of the British Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society (BOFAS) before becoming its Secretary for two terms and subsequently was elected President for 2018-2019.

Venu Kavarthapu

Venu Kavarthapu was appointed as an orthopaedic consultant at King’s College Hospital NHS Trust in 2006. He is the orthopaedic lead for the King’s Multi-disciplinary Diabetic Foot Unit and has set-up the functional limb salvage Charcot foot reconstruction service that has been recognised nationally. He established the ‘Multidisciplinary and Surgical Reconstruction of Charcot Foot Symposium' and ‘King’s Charcot Foot Reconstruction Cadaver Workshop’ course in London. The Diabetic Foot Reconstruction Fellowship that is offered in his unit is popular among senior F&A trainees. He lectures widely, is a dynamic member of several specialist societies and has published several scientific articles in foot & ankle. His relevant other responsibilities at the time of this publication include being a member of British Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society's Education Committee, Associate Professor at the University of Southern Denmark, and President of Association of Diabetic Foot Surgeons.
